Starting to wean from breastfeeding
I have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! After 9 months of nursing Milo, I’m officially WEANING OFF OF BREASTFEEDING. Actually, as I type this, I am fully weaned…but my YouTube channel is a little bit delayed, so this was when I was just starting my weaning journey.
It’s wild to think that I’ve spent so many hours breastfeeding over the past year, and I feel so grateful to have had the ability to provide him with so much breastmilk. And ALSO to have had such an oversupply that I was able to donate so much milk. I’m also equally as grateful to have my body back and feel like my “old” self again.
If you’ve been following along, you know that this has been a slow and steady journey. After a run-in with mastitis and a dip in my supply, I’ve started slowing down my nursing sessions. I switched over to a pump-heavy lifestyle, and have slowly been weaning myself off of the pump. Because my session times were dipping, so was my milk supply. In the meantime, Milo has sprouted FOUR teeth so he would often start biting me while nursing. Let me be the first to say, those little teeth are SHARP and that kid’s got a strong bite!
I truly LOVED nursing Milo. Those moments are some of my most cherished moments in early motherhood. And while I’m sad to close this chapter, I’m excited to be able to have a little more of my personal time back in my daily routine. Pumping and breastfeeding can take such a physical and emotional toll on you…so I’m just about ready for it all to be over. This also means I’ll be able to go out more without having to worry about bringing my pump parts with me or having engorgement while I’m out and about!
A few of my friends and my IBCLC told me to try putting cabbage leaves in my bra to dry up my milk supply. Have you tried this? If so, did it work for you? Let me know in the comments below.
Come along as we mix up a DELICIOUS smoothie, try out a delicious gluten-free sourdough bread, and visit the cutest little pup. In today’s vlog, I’m taking you along for a casual day with me in my NYC life. Enjoy!
